Safety advice from someone who has run the sites, not just audited them. Two decades of construction management behind every risk assessment, every inspection and every awkward conversation with a client.

Most H&S failures I am called into are not failures of paperwork. They are failures of sequence, of access, or of someone being asked to do a job in a window that was never realistic. I look at the work as well as the file — which is usually where the answer is.

Services

What I do

Site safety inspections and audits

Scheduled or unannounced visits with a written report you can act on — findings ranked by risk, with a named owner and a date, not a photo album.

Risk assessments and method statements

RAMS written for the actual task and the actual site, in language the operatives briefing off them will read and follow.

CDM compliance and H&S planning

Duty-holder support under CDM 2015 — pre-construction information, construction phase plans, and the health and safety file at handover.

Accident investigation and HSE representation

Root-cause investigation, RIDDOR reporting, and acting as your point of contact when an inspector arrives or a notice lands.

Toolbox talks and briefings

Short, practical sessions on the risks actually present on your site this month — delivered on site, at the start of shift.

H&S management systems

A policy, a set of procedures and a record trail proportionate to your size — enough to satisfy a client PQQ without burying a small team in forms.

Where I work

Two sectors, two sets of problems

Construction and trades

Principal contractors, specialist subcontractors and trade firms. Work at height, lifting operations, temporary works, hot works, confined space, and the interface risk that comes from six trades sharing one floor plate.

Corporate and office environments

Offices, studios and mixed-use premises. Fire safety management, DSE, contractor control, premises risk assessment, and keeping a landlord or facilities obligation demonstrably discharged.

How it works

Engagement

Retained adviser

A fixed monthly arrangement — your named competent person under the Management Regulations, with an agreed visit frequency and phone access in between.

Project-based

Engaged for a single scheme, from pre-construction through to the health and safety file at completion.

One-off

A single audit, a set of RAMS, an incident investigation, or a second opinion before you sign something.

Background

Why this advice is worth having

Before advising on safety I managed the work. Architectural metalwork packages at Heathrow T2A, the Francis Crick Institute, Westfield London, Battersea Phase 4, Kidbrooke Village, Hornsey and Hammersmith town halls, and Tower 42 — aviation, life sciences, retail, residential and listed civic buildings, each with a different approvals regime and a different way of going wrong.

That history is the difference between an adviser who tells you the regulation and one who can tell you how to hit it without losing the programme.
